Health & Well Being Sunday #4

First I have to apologise for this post as I have not had chance to plan it. I am constantly surprised about how quickly the weeks seem to fly by.

Since my last Health and Well Being Sunday post I have flown to Italy and back again. I spent 7 nights in the Eternal City (Rome) and also spent a day in Naples and Pompeii. It was wonderful but very hot and also very busy. Due to it being so hot I did drink a lot of water. Meal times were full of carbs – pasta, pizza and bread.

HardRock Burger
My Burger at The Hard Rock Cafe, Rome… yummy!

I also went to The Hard Rock Cafe in Rome and had a burger which was wonderful. As you probably gathered there was not a lot of dieting going on. So, the diet and fitness plan start tomorrow… (honestly)…

So below is a quick list of things I want to achieve over the next two weeks…

  1. Running twice a week
  2. Drink Water daily (5 glasses)
  3. Healthy Lunch to take to work
  4. No extra sauces on food
  5. Keep a log of anything that passes my lips
  6. No Coke a Cola (I am addicted)
  7. Strength and Core Workout x 3 Weekly
  8. Have at least 1 hour me time a day (this is important as it is people who drive me crazy)
  9. Take photos of Health and Well Being Journal/Fitness Inspiration Book for Post 5
  10. Think of a way to make these posts a bit more interesting….

I will hopefully have a better post in a couple of weeks, I am sorry this is so rushed. Back to normal blogging activity this week.

Hope you all have a good week

Health & Well Being Sunday #3

My plans for this month have been thwarted once again by the UK weather.

If there is one thing I have learnt in this life, it is that things do not always go to plan. Life has a way of taking the best laid plans, turning them upside down and then rearranging them back to front. In the UK we have gone from a heatwave to a deluge.

As the proverb states…

“A Dripping June, Sets All in Tune.”

Just as the rain allows nature to restore an even balance. A little analytical thinking in our own abilities can stop the ugly head of over confidence rising.

The past two weeks have been interesting. I have gone from hardly moving due to the heat to moving loads because it is cooler and I can.  From feeling ill to well to ill again and back to being well at the moment. I strongly suspect my body is not a big fan of changeable weather.

I have been naughty this week, I have had two takeaways over the past couple of days. I don’t usually have takeaways as I am not a big fan but due to circumstances I didn’t really have much of an option.  They were nice though. Yum! Got salad today. 🙂

Bad Habits

Trying to sort out my healthy eating habits has made me realise that I have got into some bad food habits.

Mayo/Dressings/Sauce – Full fat of course. Adding extra calories to meals. I have now stopped buying mayonnaise but that does not stop me from reaching for a pre-made sandwich loaded with the stuff. This is why I need to sort my lunches for work.

Coke Cola – Since coming back from America I have not been able to stop myself from drinking this stuff. I cannot drink diet due to the sweeteners so it is full fat, sugary coke all the way. I am not drinking it everyday but I am having at least 2 glasses a week which is not good.

Crisps – I am addicted to crisps. Any kind of crisps. Along with the coke not a good combination.

Below is the progress on my last goals…

1. Running twice a week – start building up stamina

Well just after my last post the UK had a heatwave. As much as I enjoy nice weather, I don’t like melting. So, that week I did not run or walk at all. This week I have done a lot of walking but no running, still building stamina!

2. Carry on with Health and Fitness Journal – add a “Well Being” section. (Might move it into a ring binder.

I have not got round to taking a photo of this yet but I will. It is not in a ring binder. I found a scrapbook which I have decided to house it in. It is looking good so far!

3. Healthy Eating – Organise my lunch better for work. Get ideas so can start when come back from holiday.

I have a whole section on healthy eating in my journal. Now I just have to decide what I am going to eat.

4. Increase my Water intake

Due to the heatwave this was a lot easier to accomplish than I initially thought.

5. Start a strength workout – need a stronger core.

Yep! Okay again due to the heat I only started this over the last 7 days but I am loving it. I love that feeling you get after exercising.

6. Begin Planking… again!

Errr.. well I am doing it. I am just rubbish at it… lol! I used to do about a minute but now it’s about 5 seconds.. oh dear!

7. Keep to a schedule

First I need to create one. I plan on doing this once I get back from my hols.

Over the next couple of  weeks I am off to Italy so a couple of my goals are going to go on the back burner. I cannot work out in a tiny hotel room but I will doing a lot of walking. I also suspect I will be doing a lot of eating. I was watching an interview where someone said the food in Italy was so good they cried. I am prepared to be amazed. I’m not really a foody but I will be making healthy choices where I can. Apart from when we go to the Hard Rock cafe then it will be a burger.

So, I am not listing my goals for the next two weeks. I will be doing as much as I can and I will let you know how I get on when I get back. Ciao!! x

Health & Well Being Sunday #2

Two weeks have flown by and there has been a bit of progress, with the help of Wonder Woman.

Last week I took my daughter to the cinema to see Wonder Woman. Since watching that movie my daughter has decided that she wants to be a fit as Wonder Woman or more precisely Gal Gadot. Due to this and to keep herself motivated she has decided that she is going to be my trainer. I am not complaining. I now have a poster of Wonder Woman on my wall to motivate me… lol!!! I remember watching Wonder Woman when I was child and Lynda Carter was in the lead role. I used to spin round for ages to see if my clothes would change, they never did, I would just end up falling over.

We had been running a couple of times before watching the movie but our training routine has become more structured over the past 10 days or so. I hope we keep it up. I doubt whether I would actually end up being as fit as Wonder Woman but it is good to have a goal. lol!

About a month ago my general “well being” had become pretty low. I couldn’t stop crying, I was really emotional, over-reacting about everything. I felt as though I was in quick sand and the more I struggled against it, the quicker I was sinking. There were a lot of reasons why I was feeling that way, in fact it was because there were so many things that I couldn’t stop myself from sinking. I had to admit that I needed help.

So I toddled off to the Doctors who I swear is sick to death of seeing me this year and explained how I was feeling. She told me that my brain was struggling to process everything at the moment and that I needed to give it a rest. It was like trying to work a computer with a thousand different tabs up. I was prescribed an anti-depressant (happy pills.. yay) to help me to relax. It is working I am not as emotional and I am coping a lot better. I have not made this well known within my social circles not because I am ashamed but because I don’t want to keep explaining things.

I didn’t ever want to go on anti-depressants again. I had been on them before after I had my daughter as I had post-natal depression which would be 17 years ago now. It took me a long time to admit that I needed help this time. They are not a permanent solution for me just a temporary fix.

I had to go to the dentist again. I mentioned in the last post at the beginning of the month that I was in pain again with my mouth. My filling/crown had become loose and it was causing some discomfort. I have had it fixed but there is still some pain there so we will see how it goes.

So, last time I set myself 4 things to do over the past two weeks. Here is my progress so far…

1. Is to create a list of all the things I want I to complete this year and set out a schedule.

Currently in progress – To do this I have printed off calendar pages from I have scheduled several things I want to complete but I still have some way to go.

2. Not play on the games so much – limit it to maybe 30 minutes a day or less

Completed – I am not spending any longer than 30 minutes on games. Due to this a few times I have actually forgotten about them and have not been on at all.

3. Go Running… I have been a few times need to try for twice a week.

Completed – Though still in progress. I need to keep it up.

4. Revisit my Health and Fitness Journal.

In Progress – I have got loads of things now to add to this so I need to spend a little longer on it.

Here are the goals for over the next two weeks and possibly beyond…

  1. Running twice a week – start building up stamina
  2. Carry on with Health and Fitness Journal – add a “Well Being” section. (Might move it into a ring binder.
  3. Healthy Eating – Organise my lunch better for work. Get ideas so can start when come back from holiday.
  4. Increase my Water intake
  5. Start a strength workout – need a stronger core.
  6. Begin Planking… again!
  7. Keep to a schedule

Seven things this time… I am hoping to add to this list at the end of every Health and Well Being post so I can update a managed progress rather than just random blog posts.

Next Health and Well Being Sunday – Sunday 2 July 2017

Sleeping Beauty’s Tower WIP #2

Well I did intend to update on this once a week, however over the past couple of weeks things have got in the way and I haven”t actually done a lot. I also have a a couple of busy months a head so I’m not sure how much I will get done. I am going to try and update at least once a month.

After doodling for about 3 days I have finally decided on the designs for the roof interior. I wanted to include the good fairies in the design of the tower somewhere and here feels like the perfect place.

Inside Roof 1

As you can see I need to paint them, which I am a little nervous about so I want to start it when I have plenty of time. They are based on the three good fairies from the Disney animated Sleeping Beauty. I know in the original tale there were more than three fairies. Each of the fairies Flora, Fauna and Merryweather have different shaped cloak clasps which is what I have based the design behind them on.

Roof 1

This is the other roof panel. As you can see it has a window. I need to order some more roof tiles and some ridging tiles as I haven’t got enough.

Floors 1

I have also put the floor boards on the floor. This is them in there natural state. I do intend to age them a bit.

Inside Tower Before

Above is the Tower before I re – painted and added the brick to the inside of it. It also gives you some idea of how the Tower will stand once it is completed.

Inside Tower 1

Above is one of the Tower walls painted and with brick work. I do like the brick work I think it looks really effective.

At least progress is being made even if it is slow. I hope you like it so far…

A to Z Reflections Post

I have really enjoyed participating in the A to Z April Blogging Challenge this year. Views on my blog have been good and I have had some lovely comments. The best thing about the challenge though was finding some wonderful new bloggers.

I have listed a few of my favourites. (In no particular order)

Abbie’s Adventure Diaries  –  Abbie’s A – Z theme was things she had learnt by the time she was 30. Knocking on 40’s door (nearly) I was curious to know if they were similar things to what I had learnt. Quite a lot of them were.

Milly’s Guide  –  Milly’s Guide for the A- Z was centred around Mental Health. I have had Mental Health issues in the past and over the past few months due to some personal struggles they have been trying to resurface.  Reading this blog has helped me identify some warning signs and has made me re-think certain strategies before they get any worse.

Natalie Westgate – Natalie’s A – Z theme was A Secret Diary of A Serial Killer. This was great I loved getting a new chapter everyday. If you have not read it yet, you should. Go there now… Hang on read this first, then go!

Dorky Mom Doodles – This was a lovely little gem. Kids are so funny and the doodles that go with the posts are delightful.

Unfortunately I don’t have time to mention all the other wonderful blogs I discovered. I especially liked one who I cannot find now who put pictures of various hot men for every letter.

Linky List  – Yes or No

I did miss the Linky List this year. Due to being in pain during the last week (I lost a filling/crown mentioned in previous posts so won’t bore you again) I did not link my posts on any other social media or the A to Z blogs as I had scheduled my posts. Inevitably this led to the amount of views on these posts being significantly few. I also noticed that I only had 3 referrals from the A to Z website yet loads through the WordPress version and WordPress in general.

However, even though views on my blog are nice, it was harder to find blogs. I managed to visit at least 6 new ones plus the ones I decided to follow everyday. I used to like going through the list and knowing where I was. There were a lot of occasions when I clicked on the same blogs over and over again, not by choice. I understand the list is a lot of work for the moderators, but I did miss it.

Overall I really enjoyed participating in the A to Z Challenge 2017. Looking forward to next year.

Getting Behind

My quote for February is –

“The Worst Enemy to Creativity is Self-Doubt” – Sylvia Plath

How many times have you talked yourself out of doing something because you have lacked confidence in your own ability? If you are anything like me, so many times that I have lost count. I have been plagued with self-doubt most of my life. There are many reasons behind this and I can sit here all day self analysing but it won’t make any difference. The only thing that will make anything change is – ACTION.

In the words of The King (Elvis), “a little less conversation and a little more action please”.

This month (in between the migraines) I have been trying to be more active in various aspects of my life. Spiritually, Mentally, Physically and of course Creatively. In all of these aspects I have tried to put self doubt to the back of me and push myself into trying new things or improving on what I already know.

There has only been one hindrance to this (well, two if you include migraines) – I decided I was going to organise my bedroom and buy some new bedroom furniture. So, I broke my old bedroom furniture up. Half of my possessions are in bags in the conservatory, the other half in boxes and bags in my bedroom. The New wardrobe has arrived but the new chest of drawers… still waiting. Until this arrives I am unable to organise myself, as I want to move my room around and create a work station etc… I am roughly three weeks behind in my plan at the moment, which is annoying.

On a positive note though, it is giving me more time to research and formulate ideas.

I am still working on my 101 List and I am playing with the Bullet Journal. I hope to update you soon on some other things I am planning on doing.

Looking forward to the A – Z April Challenge. I think I have my theme sorted?

Next Sunday I will be of course be posting my Slimming Sunday post thinking about what I will be posting now. Hopefully there will be a few posts between now and then. I apologise of course for the lack of photo’s in today’s post. So, here is a photo that always makes me smile. Sea Otters holding hands so they don’t drift away from each other. 🙂

Hope you all have a good week.
