Pay It Forward…

One of my favourite things is discovering new, interesting words and there meanings. I usually never remember them but this one stuck with me and seems very relevant at this moment in time.

Kuebiko

Kuebiko (Japanese) – (n) a state of exhaustion inspired by acts of senseless violence

Lately I am waking up each morning and wondering what I going to be faced with when I switch on the TV. Terrorism and disaster dominates the news at the moment, locally as well as globally. There appears to be no end to the many ways humans can cause others grief. Witnessing it on a daily basis through the media is indeed exhausting and also out of my control.

Their are people I know who have stopped watching/listening/reading the news because they find it too distressing, but is turning a blind eye to the suffering of those around you the right thing to do? I have no idea! I am not here to tell anyone what they should or should not be doing.

There are no words that can explain the sorrow, the heartache, the grief, the tears and especially the pain. The mental, emotional and physical pain anyone who has lost someone or who been affected in some way by the recent atrocities. I can not pretend that I know or even understand what the victims and families of the terrorist attacks in Manchester, London and the terrible incident at Grenfell Tower are feeling as well as those affected by the other awful incidents that are occurring around the globe on a daily basis. I feel completely helpless.

What is wonderfully heartwarming though is how people/communities have come together to help those in need. For every person out there who wants to cause harm their are 10 people at least who are willing to help and expecting no reward in return.

Payitforward

There is a movie called “Pay it Forward”, you may be aware of it already. It is also a novel by Catherine Ryan. The concept of “Pay it Forward” has been going for sometime. In fact there is even a Pay it Forward day, which in 2018 will be on the 27th April. The point is not to pay back kindness but to pass it forward.

Instead of waiting till next year for that one day, wouldn’t it be nice if we could put it into practice in our everyday lives, now. The gestures do not have to be big. It could be holding a door open for someone, helping someone in a wheelchair or a pram get off public transport, smiling, helping a colleague at work with something. We may not be able to make the whole world a better place but if it is within our power we should try and make it a better place for those around us.

Even though I try to do this anyway, I know I could and can do better. I have become cynical in my old age. So, as my own personal tribute to all those affected by any terrorist attack or disaster, man made or natural, anywhere in the world. I will be doing my best to make someone’s day a little brighter and I hope whoever I help will “Pay it Forward”.

40 Things To Do Before 40…

Have you ever seen those lists people compile of all the things you should do before you reach whatever milestone age you will be. As you know I like lists and am all for a challenge.  I am currently trying to create my Ultimate Bucket List which includes a lot of travel as there are so many places I want to see.

I also have a 101 List which runs up until my 39th which is in just under 2 years time. I reach the half way point in November… When the 101 List ends I quite fancy the idea of doing a 40 Things Before 40…. but what should I have on it?

I know it is going to take me ages to come up with ideas so I am going to start gathering peoples thoughts and jotting down things.

I am also contemplating the idea of having a theme. I was watching something the other day where they were interviewing a comedian who is turning 30 years old next year. He stated that instead of having a party, he wanted to go to 30 restaurants all over the UK throughout the year to mark it. I quite fancy doing something like that only not going to restaurants, I’m not very foody.

Whatever the finished list becomes will of course depend on financial situation.

There are of course some ground rules.

  • The goals have to be achievable and able to complete within 366 days (2020 is a leap year).
  • The goals have to be measurable or physical so there is evidence of completion.
  • Skinny dipping, streaking or anything else that involves me exposing myself in anyway is not going to appear on the list. I would not want to give anyone including myself nightmares.

So any suggestions? Let me know…

Bullet Journal Post #1 (again)

I love the idea of Bullet Journals, I have for a long time. I think I may have mentioned it a few times before. I go on Pinterest and look at photo’s of all the wonderful layouts that other people produce. I am not even going to try to recreate what some of them have done, they are so good.  Then I go and forget all about actually doing stuff with my Bullet Journal “BuJo”.

So the other day I was playing with my BuJo… I have re-started it again from June as I missed out May completely. I decided I was going to have a doodle “Summer 2017” Page to start the new bit in the middle.

Summer Doodle Page

I am going to to doodle on the ^page throughout the summer and show you the end result at the end of August. I couldn’t resist using a few stamps to add a bit of interest.

June Page

Above is the start of my title page for June. I found a few scraps of paper that I have had for ages but didn’t know what to do with. I have had a bit of a play with them. I forgot to take a photo of the finished page but I will post that next week. It will give me something to talk about.

I hope you like my BuJo for the summer so far.

Sleeping Beauty’s Tower WIP #2

Well I did intend to update on this once a week, however over the past couple of weeks things have got in the way and I haven”t actually done a lot. I also have a a couple of busy months a head so I’m not sure how much I will get done. I am going to try and update at least once a month.

After doodling for about 3 days I have finally decided on the designs for the roof interior. I wanted to include the good fairies in the design of the tower somewhere and here feels like the perfect place.

Inside Roof 1

As you can see I need to paint them, which I am a little nervous about so I want to start it when I have plenty of time. They are based on the three good fairies from the Disney animated Sleeping Beauty. I know in the original tale there were more than three fairies. Each of the fairies Flora, Fauna and Merryweather have different shaped cloak clasps which is what I have based the design behind them on.

Roof 1

This is the other roof panel. As you can see it has a window. I need to order some more roof tiles and some ridging tiles as I haven’t got enough.

Floors 1

I have also put the floor boards on the floor. This is them in there natural state. I do intend to age them a bit.

Inside Tower Before

Above is the Tower before I re – painted and added the brick to the inside of it. It also gives you some idea of how the Tower will stand once it is completed.

Inside Tower 1

Above is one of the Tower walls painted and with brick work. I do like the brick work I think it looks really effective.

At least progress is being made even if it is slow. I hope you like it so far…

Health & Well Being Sunday #1

At the end of every month I used to complete a post call Slimming Sunday, which mainly chronicled my lack of weight loss progress. The last few months though I began to encompass other things, like how I was feeling, other issues etc… So Slimming Sunday has now evolved into Health & Wellbeing Sunday.  I will now post this twice a month instead of once and I am hoping it will motivate me a bit more into making better progress not just with weight loss but with life in general.

What’s New….

In all honesty not a lot. I have not had a lot of sleep due to the warm weather. Though my iron levels are slightly up.. which is good. Unfortunately today I am in pain with my mouth once again.  The filling/crown that I had fixed a few weeks ago is coming loose and the left side of my face really hurts right now.

I am currently watching the One Love Manchester Concert so I have been quite distracted while writing this post this is also the reason why it is late. Probably the reason why the post is not making a lot sense as well.

Time

The reason I don’t end up doing a lot of things I intend is due to lack of time. Is it lack of time or lack of time management? I am such a procrastinator when it comes to doing stuff for me. I also get addicted to silly games like Cookie Jam. I cannot remember exactly what level I’m on but it is somewhere in the 1900’s just to prove how much I play that one game.

So the goals for the next two weeks… till the next post

  1. Is to create a list of all the things I want I to complete this year and set out a schedule.
  2. Not play on the games so much – limit it to maybe 30 minutes a day or less
  3. Go Running… I have been a few times need to try for twice a week.
  4. Revisit my Health and Fitness Journal.

Quite an easy list to start with…. to be honest finding it hard to concentrate what with the concert and the pain in my face. I really need to get to the dentist tomorrow.

I hope the next post will be pain free…

Its a Blogs Life…

Well my Blogging activity during the month of May has certainly taken a nose dive. I did have a few posts planned for last week but after the Terrorist Attack in Manchester on Monday night I decided that perhaps it was not the time for frivolities. Out of respect for the 22 people who died I decided that I would not post anything for last week.

Westandtogether

Sometimes the evil that surfaces in this world just knocks me off my feet. I cannot believe that anyone anywhere can justify what that wicked man did. Targeting young children is just the most sickening thing imaginable. My heart really does go out to all those who have lost someone and those whose lives will never be the same again.

Now back to frivolities…

Having the week free from Blogging Activities gave me a chance to reflect on how I want to move my Blog forward. Blogs tend to evolve over time and I really want this to be the best reflection of me.

PLANS FOR JUNE & BEYOND

I am thinking of giving my blog a “Make Over”.  I am not a 100% sure how I want to do it? I need to have a little play and see what I think might work. I do know that I want it to include my own Art Work. At the moment I am changing the Banner every month with a Disney theme. Usually the picture is from a poster or something someone else has produced. I think it would be nice if I could produce my own banner, with my own drawings or photo’s maybe…

I also want my whole blog to be more visual, more photo’s, better featured images etc…

I want something I can be really proud of. I am also planning on going though my post categories and tags etc.. Going through old posts, making it all nicer.

Monthly Themes

I am going to stick with the monthly themes though I will be moving away from Disney. I am planning on having a Roald Dahl Month in September and a Jane Austen Month in December for example. These months will feature book and movie reviews related to that author. Hopefully some interesting facts and some artwork I have produced on the selected theme.

Slimming Sunday

Yesterday should have been my Slimming Sunday post for May. As you may or may not have noticed, it did not happen.

Last month I made a fleeting comment that Slimming Sunday was going to have a name change as this post tends to encompass a lot more than just my failed slimming attempts. I need a name that is going to reflect all the nonsense that I babble on about. I will announce the new name on Sunday. (when I have come up with it! lol!)

From June I will also be making these posts fortnightly rather than monthly. I’m hoping that this may motivate me to a bit more proactive than what I am actually being.

Lists, Lists and More Lists…

I am trying to create my Ultimate Bucket List.

I am going to include things I have already completed in the past so I can keep track of achievements. There maybe some posts on this in the future.

The 101 List has also been a little neglected over the past few months or so. I will be looking at completing a few items on there over the next few weeks.

As well as those lists, I will be looking a other lists I can include, maybe some challenges.

Bullet Journal

I have been really hopeless with this. I have forgotten all about it. From June I am going to have to begin this again. Expect photo’s on this…

I do have other plans but I think this is enough for one post. I am really looking forward to making this blog more me and including more of my creative side.

Sleeping Beauty’s Tower WIP #1

W O R K   I N   P R O G R E S S – P O S T 1

One of the items on my 101 List is to complete my Sleeping Beauty’s Tower project. I am very ashamed to say that this is a project I have been meaning to do for about 8 years or maybe more after buying The Gatehouse Kit from Dolls House Emporium.

The Gatehouse Kit

I had to Google an image of the kit as Dolls House Emporium no longer sell the kit on there website.

At various points over the past 8 years, I have made plans, brought items, etc… just not actually got around to doing anything.  I did actually start the base for the tower a while ago (I posted a photo in my “Hello April” post) but thought it was about time to start the tower.

Over the weekend I have been putting the brickwork on the tower. As you can see in the photo below it looks quite realistic.

Tower1

It is brick effect paper I brought off someone on eBay. They printed it on to textured effect wallpaper so it feels bumpy.

Tower2

I think it works really well. I have used this on the outside of the tower and also the lower floor where the arch is. I have also painted the flag stones around the arch to match.

This is as far as I can go at the moment with the outside of the tower as I have to do the interior. The problem I have with the interior is deciding what I have going to do in the main room and then how I am going to do it? At the moment I have a wooden floor and plain walls it needs decoration.

I am hoping to be able to do a bit more over the weekend so will hopefully have some more photo’s for next Tuesday.
