Seven Modern Day Wonders

I have added something else to my Bucket List. It is travel related but as it covers a number of countries I have just left it on the actual Bucket List page.

Now I have always been aware of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. There are only one of these still in existence in today’s world. However, I was not aware until recently of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World or as they are sometimes call “The New Seven Wonders of the World”.   SO, guess what is now on The Bucket List –

Visit the New Seven Wonders of the World

If you are unaware of what these New Seven Wonders are I have listed them below. I have already been to one, so six more to go.

  1. Christ the Redeemer Statue in Rio de Janerio
  2. The Great Wall of China
  3. The Colosseum, Rome – complete July 2017
  4. Petra, Jordan
  5. Machu Picchu, Peru
  6. Chichen Itza, Mexico
  7. The Taj Mahal, India

Now I don’t know who decided these were the New Wonders but I am in no way qualified to disagree with the decision.  I believe from what I have read on the internet that there was an vote and these Seven were chosen from a choice of two hundred existing monuments.

I found this map on the World Atlas page which gives an indication on where these Wonders are located over the World.

I have no idea how many I will actually see but it is something to aim for.

The website for the Seven New Wonders is a good reference to use for places to visit. Not only does it list the Seven New Wonders but also the New Seven Natural Wonders and the New Seven Wonder Cities. To have a look <<<Click Here>>> I am thinking about adding both lists to my Bucket List too.

If you are now wondering what the Seven Ancient Wonders of the World were, I have listed them below:

  1. The Great Pyramid of Giza, Egypt (The only one still visible today)
  2. The Colossus of Rhodes, Greece
  3. The Lighthouse of Alexandra, Egypt
  4. The Statue of Zeus at Olympia, Greece
  5. The Hanging Garden’s of Babylon, Iraq
  6. The Mausoleum of Halicarnassus, Turkey
  7. The Temple of Artemis, Turkey

Lu’s Travel Bucket List

It’s really odd because I never really had any desire to travel till a couple of years ago. There were places I wanted to go to of course but did not really worry about it too much. In fact I don’t really ever think I thought much about leaving the UK. Now I spend a good few moments everyday wondering how I can get to certain places? What it would be like to live there? What job could I do there? Besides a million other questions. I know of course that the likely hood of me moving anywhere is a distant dream at the moment. I can however try and visit there.

A few years ago I decided to start a Travel Bucket List due to there being so many places I want to see and visit. I began this list on my old blog and when I ended the blog, I forgot to move the list over. So, over the past 12 months I have been trying to find time to do it again and every so often I add something new to My Travel Bucket List pages.  I have so many places I want to visit I now have 3 pages -My normal BUCKET LIST , EUROPE – BUCKET LIST & the UK – BUCKET LIST.

I have been trying to complete the Lists manually and then add them onto my blog when I remember or have time. All the lists have so many items now that I think I am going to have to create a separate page for each Continent.  I have sought ideas from websites such as Tripadvisor and Pinterest, as well other sites I happen to stumble across. However, I am still looking for inspiration and ideas.

I will be completing the other Continent pages over the next week hopefully. I would really appreciate any ideas either for places, things to do or even websites to visit for inspiration.

Thank you for your help

Pay It Forward…

One of my favourite things is discovering new, interesting words and there meanings. I usually never remember them but this one stuck with me and seems very relevant at this moment in time.

Kuebiko

Kuebiko (Japanese) – (n) a state of exhaustion inspired by acts of senseless violence

Lately I am waking up each morning and wondering what I going to be faced with when I switch on the TV. Terrorism and disaster dominates the news at the moment, locally as well as globally. There appears to be no end to the many ways humans can cause others grief. Witnessing it on a daily basis through the media is indeed exhausting and also out of my control.

Their are people I know who have stopped watching/listening/reading the news because they find it too distressing, but is turning a blind eye to the suffering of those around you the right thing to do? I have no idea! I am not here to tell anyone what they should or should not be doing.

There are no words that can explain the sorrow, the heartache, the grief, the tears and especially the pain. The mental, emotional and physical pain anyone who has lost someone or who been affected in some way by the recent atrocities. I can not pretend that I know or even understand what the victims and families of the terrorist attacks in Manchester, London and the terrible incident at Grenfell Tower are feeling as well as those affected by the other awful incidents that are occurring around the globe on a daily basis. I feel completely helpless.

What is wonderfully heartwarming though is how people/communities have come together to help those in need. For every person out there who wants to cause harm their are 10 people at least who are willing to help and expecting no reward in return.

Payitforward

There is a movie called “Pay it Forward”, you may be aware of it already. It is also a novel by Catherine Ryan. The concept of “Pay it Forward” has been going for sometime. In fact there is even a Pay it Forward day, which in 2018 will be on the 27th April. The point is not to pay back kindness but to pass it forward.

Instead of waiting till next year for that one day, wouldn’t it be nice if we could put it into practice in our everyday lives, now. The gestures do not have to be big. It could be holding a door open for someone, helping someone in a wheelchair or a pram get off public transport, smiling, helping a colleague at work with something. We may not be able to make the whole world a better place but if it is within our power we should try and make it a better place for those around us.

Even though I try to do this anyway, I know I could and can do better. I have become cynical in my old age. So, as my own personal tribute to all those affected by any terrorist attack or disaster, man made or natural, anywhere in the world. I will be doing my best to make someone’s day a little brighter and I hope whoever I help will “Pay it Forward”.
